NEWS: Rep. Jamaal Bowman Issues Statement on Yom HaShoah

Yonkers, NY – Today, Congressman Jamaal Bowman, Ed.D. (NY-16) issued the following statement remembering Yom HaShoah — Holocaust remembrance day.

“I join the world in solemn reflection today on Yom HaShoah,” said Congressman Jamaal Bowman (NY-16). “This is a memorial day for those who were murdered in the Shoah also known as the Holocaust, from the Greek word meaning “sacrifice by fire.” This day reminds us of the horrors the Jewish people and other persecuted groups faced — forced labor, starvation, torture, and genocide. I recently visited the World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Israel, formally known as the Yad Vashem. There I reflected on all of the souls lost to hatred and how that has impacted generations until today.  Although the horrors of the Holocaust have since ended, we have yet to fully eradicate antisemitism and hate in our communities and across the world. Yom HaShoah is an opportunity for us to reflect and stand in solidarity with our Jewish neighbors. Join me in standing up against antisemitism to create a reality full love where all are accepted. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and feel safe and I commit to continuing to do my part to make that happen.”
