Rep. Bowman Tours Sites Affected by Hurricane Ida & Other Rainstorms with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Department of Environmental Conservation
News 12 Westchester’s segment on the tour can be seen here.
Yonkers, NY -- Yesterday, Congressman Jamaal Bowman Ed.D (NY-16) continued his visits to sites in the district impacted by Hurricane Ida and other rainstorms with the US Army Corp of Engineers and the Department of Environmental Conservation. Congressman Bowman visited sites in Pelham Manor, Mount Vernon, and Yonkers. On the tour, Congressman Bowman spoke with residents of the towns about their experience dealing with flooding and talked about how the government could better respond to help mitigate damage from hurricanes and rainstorms.
In his first term in Congress, Congressman Bowman has brought tens of millions in funding back to the district to ensure that towns in NY-16 are better prepared for future storms — and he is committed to continue to fight for more funding.
“If we are going to be prepared for future storms we have to work together — this needs to be a regional effort,” said Congressman Jamaal Bowman Ed.D (NY-16). “We need to keep bringing home the resources needed and we need to make sure that we are all speaking with each other so we better understand what we are facing and to ensure we have a unified front against these increasingly frequent and devastating storms. Tours and meetings like we held yesterday are crucial steps to making sure we are prepared.”
The congressman was joined by three project managers with the USACE and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Region 3 Director Kelly Turturro. Local leaders, including the Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson Howard, Pelham Manor Village Manager John Pierpont, several engineers and commissioners of Public Works, and other public officials, also participated in the tour.
Congressman Bowman also toured sites impacted by Hurricane Ida and other weather incidents in Rye, Bronxville, and Tuckahoe earlier this year and he is planning another visit to other impacted towns in the fall.
