Rep. Bowman Statement on Memorial Day

NEW YORK — Rep. Jamaal Bowman issued the following statement on Memorial Day:

“Today we mourn and honor those who lost their lives in service of our country. We think of their families and loved ones who are facing that immense loss every day, not just Memorial Day. We think of the courage and dedication it takes to make such a sacrifice in service to our nation, a debt that cannot ever be repaid.

“I ask today that we all recommit to ending all forms of violence and war and to support peace, justice, and diplomacy — so that someday, no family has to lose their father, mother, sister, brother, or child in service to our nation. We will continue our work to uphold the values within our families, communities, and institutions that our service members have fought to protect: equality, justice, opportunity, freedom, and a shared responsibility to each other.

“After this immensely difficult year, I hope today continues to be an opportunity for reflection, gratitude, and time together with our loved ones.”
