NEWS: Rep. Bowman Helps Deliver $12 Million to New Rochelle LINC Project

NEW YORK – Today, Congressman Jamaal Bowman (NY-16), released a statement following a notice from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) that the City of New Rochelle is a recipient of a Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability & Equity (RAISE) Grant for The LINC: Safety, Mobility & Economic Opportunity project.
“Following months of work to secure funding for New Rochelle’s Lincoln Avenue Neighborhood, I am so pleased that I have been able to help deliver nearly $12 million in funds and much-needed resources that will improve transportation safety, support the economy, and increase access to vital services,” said Congressman Jamaal Bowman. “Recognizing the critical importance of this investment, I designated this project as one of my highest priorities in transportation legislation and was pleased to support Mayor Bramson’s application to the DOT for this grant. From reducing traffic and adding both crosswalks and bike lanes to the conversion of Memorial Highway into a safe, city street with a nearby park, this grant represents an important investment in safety, economic development, and equity. I look forward to continued collaboration with our local leaders to ensure we continue delivering for our communities.”
Congressman Bowman first submitted the New Rochelle LINC Project to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure as a top priority for the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation (INVEST) in America Act and secured its inclusion in the House-passed legislation. In addition to submitting the LINC project as a member-designated project, Congressman Bowman also sent a letter to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in support of the City of New Rochelle’s application for a RAISE Grant. The combined advocacy of Congressman Bowman, Senate Majority Leader Schumer, Senator Gillibrand, Mayor Bramson, and other local leaders on behalf of this project has helped secure much-need federal funds.
The LINC Project creates a multi-modal connection between the Lincoln Avenue corridor and downtown New Rochelle by replacing the current two-way Memorial Highway with a one-way couple consisting of North Avenue (northbound) and Memorial Highway (southbound) and converting Memorial Highway from a high-speed highway to a city street. The project also constructs a partially elevated linear park that incorporates runoff and stormwater facilities, adds bicycle paths along key roadway corridors and connecting to the park, and enhances pedestrian mobility using streetscape improvements and traffic calming measures.
